Jacks Photo Finish

The first institute of British Telecom Engineers, IBTE, Eastern Districts photographic competition attracted over 100 entries in October

The competition was divided into four categories: Portraits, Landscape and Nature study, Engineering and architecture and Aspects of BT.

A print size limit of 5 x 8 inches was introduced into the competition to try to encourage non-serious photographers to enter using standart sized prints without fear of competition from enlargements.

Steve Miles, professional photographer and photographic judge for the East Anglian Federation, had the dificult job of picking the winners from the 104 entries. He was also on hand at an exhibition of the prints held at the Aylesbury Conferance Centre, to comment on the first, second third and highly recommended entrant in each cetegory.

After the exhibition the prizes were presented with Jack Relph, CD211, from the Luton centre receiving the cup for best overall picture.

Jack told Chiltern Link: 'It was my family who encorouged me to enter the competition because I'm not a 'serious' photographer. The photo was taken on a walk near Weymouth and shows my colleague Norman Hart, we are both members of a walking club. I was delighted to win the best overall category, it has sparked off a new interest'.
